16 things I do to prep for my housekeeper
Have you ever wondered why people clean before their housekeepers come? Lots of people do it; it’s really worth spending the time. It might seem crazy, but I prep for my housekeepers. They come every two weeks and this is what I do the night before they come or the morning of. When you move things out of the way, your housekeepers can actually do their job by cleaning better.
Although it’s nice to have help with all of the chores, I hired my housekeepers to help me with the cleaning part of maintaining my home. When things aren’t in the way, they can actually clean every nook and cranny of my home. They dust my closet because items aren’t on the shelves. They can wipe the top of my refrigerators because there’s nothing on top of them. They’re able to do a detailed cleaning job instead of spending their time doing my daily tasks.
Here are 16 things that I do before my housekeeper comes:
⭐️ blow the garage to remove all debris
⭐️ pull towels & washcloths from the bathrooms
⭐️ make sure all dishes are done
⭐️ pick everything up off the floor
⭐️ remove everything I can off surfaces
⭐️ make sure the clean set of linens are ready
⭐️ clean out the fridge
⭐️ throw any trash or boxes away
⭐️ go into the attic if needed (holiday time)
⭐️ clean or empty vacuum filters
⭐️ do any tasks that cause a mess (ie. clean out dryer vent)
⭐️ wash floor rugs or mats (if needed)
⭐️ refill drinks in the fridge
⭐️ pull pieces of furniture away from the wall (sometimes)
⭐️ move or tuck away anything that I don’t want misplaced
⭐️ text the owner if I have any special requests
💡Basically, I walk the house to do anything I can to make the cleaning job easier on my housekeepers. If I get the stuff out of the way, then they can do a more thorough job. If I get all trash out, then there’s less clutter to deal with. If I refill and restock the home, then it’s ready to go after they leave.
🔑 I’ve had several different housekeepers, and they all do similar but different tasks. Regardless, you want to maintain the home as much as possible and keep it clutter-free so that they can do what they’re there to do…CLEAN!
🛑 If you have housekeepers, stop expecting them to do it all. You can help them do their job better by doing these things. You’ll see a difference in their work. They’ll spend less time picking up and more time actually cleaning!
